How To Use Instagram Stories For Your Business

There’s something compelling about disappearing content. A timely existence of content has intrigued users enough to create a huge trend wave throughout social media. Now, nearly all social media networks are jumping on the bandwagon, and while Snapchat may have pioneered stories, Instagram isn’t missing out on all the fun.

Just over a year old now, Instagram Stories have become a great opportunity for businesses to showcase their brand through carefully crafted content that disappears within a 24-hour time frame. Different from users’ carefully curated and filtered profiles, Instagram Stories is a place where raw, real-time sharing can be admired.

If you’re not utilizing Instagram stories in your social media strategy just yet, you need to be. In less than six months since it’s launch, the feature had 150 million daily active users, a number that took Snapchat six years to reach.

How To Use Instagram Stories For Your Business

Step 1: From your Instagram home feed, tap the camera icon on the upper left-hand corner of your screen, or simply swipe to the right. You’ll be directed to the Instagram Stories camera.

Step 2: From here, notice the story options on the bottom of the screen that includes LIVE, NORMAL, BOOMERANG, and HANDS-FREE. You’ll also have the option to turn on/off flash and switch between front and rear-facing cameras.

Step 3: Once you captured your story using one of these features, enhance your creation by using text, drawing, and stickers.

Step 4: If you’re not satisfied with your post, hold and drag elements into the trash icon that appears at the bottom of the screen. Tap the X at the upper left-hand corner of the screen to delete the entire post.

Step 5: Save your story to your camera roll by tapping the save button, denoted by a downward arrow and line, at the lower left-hand corner of the screen.

Step 6: To post to your story, tap the encircled + button at the lower left-hand corner. Or, tap the Next arrow at the lower right-hand corner. You’ll be directed to a screen with options to post to your story and/or send your story directly to other Instagram users.

 

Other Effective Features on Instagram Stories

In your Instagram Stories, you have the ability to mention other users. Simply tap the Aa option at the top of the screen to add text, then type the @ symbol along with their username. Your selected @mention will be notified once you post your story.

You also have the ability to link in Instagram Stories. Featuring a product, planning an event, or simply directing users to a landing page? Add a link to your story by tapping the link icon at the top of the screen. Once you add your URL, See More will appear at the bottom of your story. Because this is the only way to add a specific link to any single post on Instagram, it’s easy for businesses to get overzealous with adding links. Refrain from bombarding your users with too many links by ensuring your links are effective and provide value.
